Popup Message Window For Missed Calls

Instead of having the hard to see little phone icon on the top right of your Blackberry Home screen that notifies you missed a call, in OS 4.0 you can get a window popup instead. With the window popup you can easily view the number that just called you, instead of trying to find it in your message list.

To setup popup notification, do the following:
1. Click on the Phone icon.
2. Wheel-click and go to Options.
3. Select General Settings and make sure ‘Phone List View’ is set to ‘Call Log’.
* Note, in some OS versions, you will need to go back to the Options screen and configure ‘Call Log’ for Missed Calls or All Calls.

There may come a time where you will need to wipe your handheld clean like when returning the device for warranty replacement or repair. It’s always a good idea to do so, especially if you have sensitive information or anything incriminating on the handheld. You have the choice of either erasing all the data on your handheld, or erasing all the data and applications on your handheld.

To erase all data:
To erase all the data on your handheld, complete the following steps. This option is available with BlackBerry Handheld Software version 3.8 and later.
1. On the handheld, click the Options icon.
2. In the Options screen, click Security.
3. Click the trackwheel and select Wipe Handheld.
4. Click Continue.
5. Type blackberry. All the data on the handheld is erased.
To erase all the data and applications on your handheld:
1. Connect your handheld to the personal computer running Desktop Manager.
2. In Desktop Manager, double-click the Application Loader icon.
3. In the Application Loader Wizard window, click Next.
4. On the Handheld Security Password screen, type an incorrect password and click Next.
5. Repeat step 4 ten times. The handheld resets. This might take several minutes.

Blackberry Internet Service users can get rid of the complicated @carrier.blackberry.net email address and change it to something much simpler. For example, if you’re forwarding your work email address then you can just specify that same email address as your sent from. We think no one should ever use the blackberry email address, it just becomes too complex and prone to mistakes. We can’t even count the times we’ve seen people transpose their email as @blackberry.carrier.net.

To change the address from which your email is sent for your BlackBerry account:
1. Log into BlackBerry Internet Service.
2. Click Profile.
3. Click Sent From Address.
4. Click one of the following options:
* I want my Sent From Address to be me default handheld email address.
* I want the email account below to be my Sent From Address.
Note: This is a drop down menu including all integrated email addresses.
* I want to customize my Sent From Address to be the email address entered below.
Note: You can input any email address in this field.
5. Click Submit to save the changes.
6. Log out of the BlackBerry Internet Service to save the selected Sent From Address.

* For Bluetooth enabled BlackBerry devices, “Turn Bluetooth Off”, if it is not in use.
* BlackBerry devices should be kept in their holsters when not in use because this will turn off the LCD screen.

hen I had to chance to go around Europe, I had my ASUS EEE with a Systran home translator. It was awkward carrying it around and have to say really geeky. All I really want is a good anguage translator for my Blackberry. Finding a good one is really hard and they often don't translate properly. But things are changing and I'm happy to say I found one translator software worth installing.

BBtran


BBtrans is app that allows you to translate sentences to different major languages. It uses different online translation services such a Systrans ( Babel Fish ), Google Translate and Freetranslation. I prefer using Systran or Google Translate as the source of the translation.
Overall bbtrans is going to be a very useful app for travelers who don't want to carry anything bulky.

nsd is running blackberry error

Problem When synchronizing your personal information management (PIM) applications, the following error appears:
"NSD is running"
BlackBerry Desktop Manager closes after the message appears.
Cause If this error occurs, the NSD.exe process cannot shut down without also closing the program to which it is attached, in this case, Lotus Notes. When Lotus Notes shuts down, Desktop Manager closes.
This type of error can be a symptom of a synchronization problem with Lotus Notes because the data in one or more of the PIM applications is corrupt.
Note: The NSD.exe will only run if Lotus Notes is open. Desktop Manager cannot cause NSD errors.
Resolution Troubleshoot the problem in this sequence:
1. Determine which application causes the error. Synchronize the device with each of the desktop applications, one at a time.
To isolate the application,

1. Connect the handheld to the desktop computer.
2. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
3. Double-click the Intellisync icon and click Configure PIM.
4. Clear the check boxes beside all but one of the applications.
5. Click OK.
6. Click Synchronize Now.
7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each application until the problem reoccurs.

2. Clear the Intellisync® Files. Close Desktop Manager and disconnect the BlackBerry.
For Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP Delete the Research In Motion folder from C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data and synchronize again.
Note: Deleting this folder does not affect the Desktop Manager installation on the computer. The next time you synchronize the PIM, the Research In Motion® folder is recreated.
3. Enable Advanced Logging. Enable advanced logging by following the instructions from blackberry help
4. Clear the Application Database from the device.

1. Connect the device to the personal computer and open Desktop Manager.
2. Double-click Backup and Restore.
3. In the Backup and Restore window, click Advanced. The device application databases appear in the right pane.
4. From the right pane, select the application database that causes the error.
5. Click the arrow to transfer the database to the left pane. This also saves a backup copy of the database on the personal computer.
6. When a copy of the database appears in the left pane, select the database on the right side, and click Clear.
7. Click Close and select Yes when prompted to save the backup database file to the computer,
8. Synchronize your PIM.

5. Install Desktop Manager 4.0 Service Pack 1. This service pack includes updated Intellisync translators. Verify that your translator is supported for this upgrade in the Desktop Software Release notes.
